Why is there Eid al-Adha ?
“So, do we have to slaughter? Why sacrifice in the first place? And who said it’s part of the Eid?”
We hear a lot of questions, especially from girls who are starting to research and understand… They don’t do something just because everyone else does, but want to know: Why?
Let’s go back a little… to our master Abraham, peace be upon him.
The man whom God tested with enormous trials, the greatest of all: sacrificing his own son!
A true dream, in which our master Abraham, peace be upon him, had a vision in which he said to his son, Ishmael, peace be upon him, and the response was:
“O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, God willing, among the steadfast.”
Imagine?! Complete surrender and total submission… from both father and son.
And God, in His mercy, redeemed Ishmael with a magnificent sacrifice… and from here came the tradition of sacrifice.
This Eid is not just a day of slaughter and meat…
This Eid is a remembrance of submission, obedience, and surrender to our Lord’s will, even if it is difficult.
We sacrifice not for the meat…
but to remember that obedience is not always easy, and that closeness to our Lord begins with us giving up things we love… just as Abraham was willing to sacrifice the most precious thing he owned.
🎈 Eid is not just about joy… Eid is a message:
That you are willing to give up what you love if God asks you to.
That you remember the meaning of uncompromising obedience.
And that you rejoice, not just in new clothes… but in the intention in your heart.
And the sacrifice?
It is a symbol… not a luxury, nor a tradition.
It is an obedience to our Lord, about which He said:
“God does not receive their meat or their blood, but what He receives is piety from you.”
That is, the essence is not in the form of the slaughter, nor in the meat…
The essence is in your heart.
Every year, may you be closer to God and to your true self ♥
And every Eid, may you choose to be happy with a meaningful joy.
