Oswa’s Story
When you have a dream in your heart… and that dream isn’t yours alone.
At a time when the whole world was shutting down… and the streets were deserted,
and people were hoarding food and medicine, and some were hoarding fear…
Ali Al-Saqti was sitting at home… not thinking about escaping the coronavirus,
he was thinking about escaping a life that was going on without meaning.
“I don’t want to just work… I want to work for something that pleases God, something that I feel I’m striving for… not just earning from.”
His words weren’t idealistic… they were honest, and they hurt.
And she, “Mother of the Lion” – her partner in heart and shoulder – was hearing with her eyes before her ears… and she saw something in him that couldn’t be broken.
The Moment of the Seed
God sent them the first aid… their neighbor, a respected engineer who was religious.
He told them, “I’m with you.”
But the phrase that was repeated in every meeting, every phone call, and every message was:
“Are you starting a business in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic?!”
All indicators pointed to “go back.”
But they were looking ahead… even if the road was dark.
A small house… but a big heart.
The capital? Very little.
The employees? Ali and Umm al-Assad.
The warehouse? An empty room in the house.
They worked with their hands, preparing, packaging, and delivering the orders themselves.
They changed sterilization tools from one customer to the next, and they feared for people more than they feared for themselves.
People bought with fear… while they sold with love.
The first year: complete loss… and complete hope.
A whole year… every day was a struggle – fatigue – disappointment – and people telling them “enough is enough.”
They lost all their money. 👇
He had no source of income, but he had an unwavering intention and a faith as firm as a mountain.
My father got COVID-19?! 😢
At one point during the year, his father got COVID-19 and he was torn between visiting his father and checking on him or checking on his business, which was going from one loss to another.
Out of fear for his father, he felt the world had turned black in his face, closing in on him, as if everything was collapsing on his head.
Umm al-Assad would cry one day and then soothe him the next.
And he… would write one word on a small piece of paper:
“We’ll continue.”
The second attempt: Failure… but not the end.
They decided to take a new step. They said, “Let’s make the first Aswa product with our own hands.”
They made a knitted pullover, worked hard on it, and invested whatever money and energy they had left.
It hit the market… and failed.
It was a painful failure.
“So, did we work hard for nothing?”
The people who were with them abandoned them, and their families increasingly blamed them… Even the prayers began to be low-key.
February 18, 2021: The Real Birthday
Three months after the failure, and hearts were tired, but they still had life.
And on February 18, a new product was released.
Simple? Yes.
But made with love, understanding, and prayer.
The result?
A beautiful echo…and smiling faces…and messages saying:
“I finally found the dress I was looking for…”
And you…whoever is reading this now, the story wouldn’t have been complete without you.
“Oswa” is not just a company, and not just Islamic clothing…
“Oswa” is a warm embrace in times of confusion, a soothing breeze when life feels suffocating,
and a voice calling you to tell you:
Modesty has never been against beauty, and elegance has never been far from God’s pleasure.
