9 Year Old Veiled

Amina… The Hijab That Made My Heart Grow

Amina is an Egyptian girl from a simple, not very religious home…

A home filled with comfort and warmth, but she rarely heard about Islamic dress or the hijab.

Her family is kind, but they see religion as something for adults, not for a nine-year-old girl.

As for Amina?

She was different…

She loved the Seerah (Prophet’s biography), the Quran, and stories about the female companions, especially those who changed the world while wearing modest clothing and demanding modesty.

As a child, she would stand in front of the mirror, wrapping the veil around her hair…

and would say to herself:

“I’m not like those girls who only care about fashion and style… I want to wear decent, loose, Islamic girls’ clothing… clothes that please God.”

One day, she said to her mother:

“I want to wear the hijab… not for my looks, for my heart.”

Her mother laughed and said:

“You’re still young… leave it for when you grow up.”

Her father was completely against it, saying:

“The hijab will hold you back. People will look at you strangely. You’re a little girl.”

But Amina remained determined.

She would leave the house without a hijab… but would put it on as soon as she got to school. She prays every day:

“O Lord, use me in Your obedience… I want to be a veiled girl, not like other people, but like You.”

Once, after being mocked by a colleague, she wrote a letter to her mother:

“Mama, I don’t see myself as young… I see that my heart has grown with the veil.

I want to wear Islamic clothing that is loose, respectable, and modest… I want people to say, ‘A well-mannered Egyptian girl, who knows God.’

I don’t want to dress to impress, I want to dress to please.”

Her mother didn’t respond, but then she saw her wearing the veil… and she kept quiet.

From that day on, she never took it off again.

Amina grew up… and her family’s view changed.

She became a role model for a girl who wears the Islamic veil, and at the same time, she is successful, sophisticated, and outstanding.

Every day, she proved that Islamic dress is not an obstacle… it is a gateway to blessings.

A 9-year-old girl decided to go against the grain…

Because she chose to conceal her true nature, God raised her up and made everyone who saw her… see in her “light.”
