Today’s trend: Mockery… or strength?
On a normal day, I decided to post a photo of myself wearing a hijab on Instagram.
The photo was simple… a calm smile, a black abaya, a neutral background.
Within hours, the notifications didn’t stop.
But instead of finding support… I received a torrent of comments:
— “What are you trying to promote?”
— “The niqab is outdated!”
— “Cover yourself at home, don’t even show up!”
— “She looks depressing, like she’s from the Middle Ages!”
I sat in front of my phone, unable to respond… I felt a lump in my throat.
Every word was like a pinprick.
Some girls jumped in to defend me… and some guys laughed.
I asked myself:
“If I responded to them… would it make a difference? Or is ignoring them more effective?
Why is a girl in an Islamic country being fought over her appearance?”
I received a message from a girl I didn’t know:
— “I’m just like you… Every time I post a photo wearing a hijab, they make fun of me. But your courage It made me think about being strong like you.
This message gave me back my voice.
I wrote a post:
“Everyone is free to dress as they please, but there’s a difference between freedom and verbal abuse… I’m happy that I chose to be an Oswa , even if social media sees me as strange.”
I closed the comments…
But it opened the door to a bigger discussion within me:
“Will you stay silent and let them break you… or will you stand up and defend your identity online like you do on the street?”
If you were in her place… would you respond to the bullies? Would you stay silent or confront them?
Share your experience with social media bullying or write a supportive sentence in the comments…
Maybe a word from you can change the mood of a girl still dealing with today’s attacks.
