From the girl who was hiding herself, to the girl who decided to show her true self
“I used to wear loose clothing… but not because I was convinced. I used it to cover up things I didn’t like about my appearance.”
Ruqayyah was one of those girls people saw as “conservative.”
But inside, there were many conversations.
She wore Islamic clothing… but she felt she did it out of fear, not love.
She tried to blend in, dressed in fashion.
Sometimes she wore a tight jacket, sometimes she wore a skirt without being convinced…
But she never once looked in the mirror and said, “I’m pretty.”
Until she met a woman at the mosque, who told her a sentence that changed her life:
“When clothing is love, not fear… then it only becomes modesty.”
This sentence resonated with her, making her ask herself:
“Am I resorting to Islamic clothing to escape?
Or because I want to show my true self?”
She returned home and sat down to write on a piece of paper:
“Who am I?
What do I love?
I want to dress How?
And what kind of clothes make me feel safe when I wear them… not invisible?”
She typed into Google:
Modern Islamic clothing – Islamic skirts – Wide-leg pants with a soft style
And she found “Oswa.”
A different brand, with an unconventional look,
with a sense of girlishness, comfort, and simplicity…
and at the same time, Islamic, comfortable, and non-irritating materials.
She chose the first outfit:
a long, flared skirt in royal Turkish fabric,
and pants with elastic sleeves and an elegant side slit,
in a soft gray color.
She put it on…
and stood in front of the mirror and smiled:
“I don’t hide myself, I appear in them.”
From here, Ruqayya began to redefine herself.
She began to dress with love, not pressure.
She began to choose clothes that comforted her soul before her body.
She began walking down the street with her head held high.
Girls would ask her: “Did you buy this outfit?” Where from?”
She proudly replies: “From Oswa… but the story isn’t in the set, the story is in who sent it to me.”
